It’s never a good day when you call up your spa to reschedule your facial appointment, and they proceed to tell you that your esthetician is no longer working with the business anymore. Perfect. Splendid. I just got a pimple by the stress this is causing me. UGH!
After having a major brain fart while on the phone with the receptionist after hearing those words come out of her mouth, I quickly say “Cancel my appointment, I’ll call back.” At least that’s what I think I said. Suddenly the panic comes back and the agony of the idea of having to start over again made me cringe. When I moved home from Florida, I had the world’s best esthetician and I really dabbled with the idea of bringing her with me or flying their every so often. Men will never understand, but women will. When you find someone that knows your skin, and I mean KNOWS your skin, you hang on to them. They get it and they know what will work and what will not. They are the ones that if you are having a bad week, will somehow squeeze you in for a quick mini facial. You do not let people like this go. And mine, well, I had no choice, she just left… or was fired, which I am more leaning towards.
My Sunday Shoutout goes to The Image Salon in Latham, NY. I was referred over there by a friend and they got me immediately, probably because they could sense the agony in my voice of admitting I am a first time client ha! But I knew my good friend would not steer me wrong because she is in the spa/salon industry as well. I was super impressed with the cute salon and spa at The Image Salon. I was greeted right away walking in and personally escorted to my room by Angela, my esthetician. I was shocked to find that the room was actually quiet large. FINALLY! Someone who gets that a lot of people now a days are super claustrophobic and I would be one of them. She had wonderful soft jazz music playing, which at first I wasn’t super into, but found that it actually was quiet peaceful.
Angela was above and beyond amazing. She talked to me about everything in regards to my skin and told me about everything she was doing and WHY she was doing it. That is huge! A lot of estheticians just do the facial and rub shit all over your face and never tell you why. Here is a tip for your next facial: ask your esthetician why she is using what she is using and how it will help. See if she knows or if she is just following a standard plan for your facial. Most spas do work like that and they will not “customize” the facial to your needs. They will tell you that they are customizing it, but honestly how the f do you know if it’s customized. I left The Image Salon feeling amazing! And my skin did too! Angela did not push any products on me and wanted me to do my research on the products her salon offers and use up the remaining products I had left purchased from my previous spa. This is an excellent place to go, with large facial rooms for those who get claustrophobic in the small rooms spas usually put you in.
