Something In The Water is a must read on all levels. I don’t even know where to begin. First off, I truly recommend  listening to the Audible version if you can. Normally, I could really care less if you read or listen to the book, but this is my first encounter where the author is actually the narrator. I felt like the words just had so much power behind them and the story felt so real as if the author was telling it herself…  oh wait, she was! Most of the books, well, actually all of the books I have listened to through Audible, have been read by a narrator. I am sure the authors work with the narrators to understand the characters, allowing them to put a voice behind each one, but there was something different in the way the story was told, when told through the author’s perspective.

It is pretty standard to see the same narrator for every book an author has published. I remember I “read” one of Elin Hilderbrand’s books and decided to continue on with another of her books right after.  Again, as I normally do, I forgot to preview the book and quickly found out if was a different narrator. Needless to say, the different narrator threw me so off that I could not finish the book and returned it to Audible.

Did you know you can do that? If you get a book and it’s just not what you thought it would be or you made the mistake and didn’t preview the author (which I have been guilty of on several accounts), you can contact Audible and ask for your credit back. It is as simple as that.

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman is beautifully written and captures the reader within the first chapter. Without giving too much away, this novel is a murder-mystery that leads a newly married couple to make choices, testing their trust in each other along the way. In the end will love conquer all? Or will greed show their true colors?

As I said, this book had me captured right away and every chapter left me wanting more. However… because there always is a “however,” I found myself wanting more at the end and throughout different parts of the story. What I mean is, the ending was just kinda “blah.” And I am sure someone who reads Something in Water and my blog post, could feel differently, but for me it was if Steadman was writing, writing, writing and decided “hmm, I think I will end the book right about… now” Maybe that was a little harsh, but it is the truth. Now I am not saying there wasn’t a proper ending, there was, but it just felt so rushed, leaving me with many unanswered questions and that unsatisfied feeling of wanting more.

Despite my “however”, this book is top on my list so far for 2020. It is psychological-thriller that keeps the reader so engaged you feel as if you are right along side of the main character throughout the story. In the end, I  found myself  wondering if I would have taken the same path, given the situation.  Enjoy this page turner that makes you seriously start questioning your own morals xo
