The Perfect Couple was my first Elin Hilderbrand book. I decided to venture into this genre of “summer beach reads” after seriously dreading the long winter we were so quickly approaching. I have seen a lot of Hilderbrand’s novels featured on my “suggestions for you” list on Audible.com, but was never was in the right head space to take the plunge and commit.

After finishing Circe, a novel filled with spells and goddesses, and then racing into the drawn out, male-driven novel, The Song of Achilles, I figured a book that took me to the beaches of Nantucket, mixed with luxurious lifestyles, weddings and a murder, might lift my spirits.  I know that sounds super messed up, BUT… it did just that and more! About two chapters in, I was committed. I fell in love with Hilderbrand’s style of writing, the details interwoven throughout the book, and the plethora of books to choose from once I finished.

I have a weird obsession when to comes “book series” or a variety of books from the same author. I remember at first I was confused with Hilderbrand’s collection, because it was referenced as a collection, but I couldn’t figure out, in what order I read the books in? Did I need to read one book before the other? And what were these “mini-series” she had? “Winter Series”, “Summer Books”, “Paradise Series”? They all took place in Nantucket, but were they all the same characters? To be honest, I struggled finding a clear cut answer to that question online. I searched reviews, her personal website, Facebook pages and groups and I finally just said, “I am going in.”

I chose The Perfect Couple because it was one of her more recent books and it had a ton of reviews on Audible. Plus the cover looked cool, and I will admit, I am a sucker for a nice cover.  The book takes place in Nantucket and starts off at the end, working its way from beginning to end and then from end to beginning. It is a wedding murder, mystery, that had me guessing along the way who did it, but still caught off guard in the end. I would definitely label this as a “perfect beach read,” containing a plot that had me looking forward to the next chapter.

Take the plunge and let me know what you think xo
